Harbour Tap Sunday session has run for nine years without a booking sheet

There is no diary behind the bar at the Harbour Tap, which is the first thing every visiting promoter asks about.

It is the kind of change that shows up in the paperwork long before it shows up in the room. Diaries, invoices and load-in sheets all moved first, and the audience only started noticing about a month later.

Sign up on the night, fifteen minutes each, house guitar in the corner. The format has not changed and neither has the queue.

Everyone we spoke to described the same sequence in a slightly different order, which is usually the sign that something real is happening rather than one loud person having a good season.

The detail worth holding on to is small. Give the people doing the work twenty minutes they did not have before, and almost every other complaint on the list quietly disappears.

What it means for the rooms

None of this is settled. The next two months will decide whether it holds through a full season or turns out to have been one unusually good run of weekends.
